Chain Fishing is a well known method of shiny hunting. Over the generations, the success rate of of catching shiny Pokemon by repeatedly casting your rod has increased by a fair amount, though it is still rather difficult to obtain Pokemon of another colour.
Chain Fishing is very simple and there is not very much to it. On the other hand, it takes a very long time to successfully reel in a rare shiny Pokemon. Not only that, but the attacks, IV's, and nature of the caught Pokemon will be random and your choices of Pokemon are very limited. The process is as follows...
----------------------------------------------------------------
***There are strict rules to Chain Fishing that must be followed, otherwise you will break the chain and reset the chance of finding a shiny Pokemon until you start again.***
***Do move from the spot in which you are fishing. If you do, you will break the chain and the streak will end.***
***Do not pull the rod from the water too late or too early. If you do, you will break the chain and the streak will end.***
SUGGESTIONS - Bring a Pokemon with attacks that have a lot of PP. Preferably, bring Pokemon with super-effective attacks.
- Let the leading Pokemon in your party have the ability Sticky Hold or Suction Cups. It will make Pokemon bite more often while you are fishing.
- Bring a Pokemon with the attack False Swipe or Hold Back to leave the Pokemon you wish to capture with 1HP left. If there is a chance that the Pokemon that you wish to capture might know self-damaging attacks, bring a Pokemon with Heal Pulse. As always, if you are going to capture a Pokemon, attacks such as Thunder Wave or Hypnosis are recommended.
- Stock up on lots of Ultra Balls and Net Balls. I myself will bring those as well as Dusk Balls and Timer Balls just to be safe.
- Set your needed rod as one of the key items for ease of access.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Determine the Pokemon that you wish to search for by Chain Fishing and leave for that area. Search the premises for a very secluded area, such as an spot that is crowded by rocks.
Bring out your fishing rod and begin your search. That is all there is too it.
